Timing Belt Kits
A new timing belt kit will contain all the required parts required when installing the timing belt – not just the timing belt itself.
We offer timing belt kits with or without water pump replacement and recommend replacing the oil and oil filter with these repairs for maximum engine health and to avoid contamination of the newly installed components.
Some vehicles require an additional replacement of the auxiliary drive belt due to being stretched or perished; we often advise to change at the same time.
What is a timing belt?
The timing belt (also known as the cambelt) is a ridged belt which connects the crankshaft to the camshaft. It ensures the aligned rotation of the crankshaft (bottom part of the engine) to the camshaft (the top part of the engine) that controls the opening and closing of the engine’s valves on the top of the engine. In an engine the timing belt stops the valves being struck by the pistons as the engine operates.
Newer vehicles have timing chains instead of timing belts as these last longer. If your vehicle is one that has a timing belt you will need to have it replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommendation, which is usually every 60,000 miles or 5 years.
How much does a timing belt replacement cost?
Prices vary and the design and layout of the engine may require additional labour to gain access to the components. We recommend you give us a call and we will be happy to give you a no obligation estimate.
